Diggi Palace is roughly three hundred years old. It was established in the early 1730s, which makes it one of Jaipur’s older family residences, and it is still lived in and looked after by the family that built it.
Where the story begins
The palace was founded by Shri Thakur Saheb Pratap Singh Ji as the family’s royal residence. The Diggi family had journeyed from Diggi village in the Tonk district to Jaipur, where they took part in the growth of the newly founded city. It was here that they began building Diggi Palace as their ancestral seat.
A home before it was a hotel
For generations, the palace was a family home. Its courtyards, gardens and stately halls became the setting for family gatherings, enduring traditions and celebrations. That history is still easy to read in the building: the courtyards are arranged for different kinds of occasions, from the private to the public.
1991: opening the doors
In 1991, the family opened the palace to guests, turning the private residence into a heritage hotel. The aim was to welcome visitors while keeping the character, architecture and traditions of the palace intact, rather than rebuilding it as something new.
Living heritage today
Today, Diggi Palace is a working heritage hotel and a venue for weddings, festivals and gatherings, with the past thoughtfully joined to modern comfort. The family’s guiding thought sums it up: to preserve is to honour the ancestors; to evolve is to serve the future.
